Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has missed the club’s pre-season friendlies with Bristol Rovers and French side Nantes through a niggling injury.
The Birmingham Mail report that the boyhood Villa fan did not feature in the team’s victory against Nantes on Saturday afternoon because of a strain.
As a result, Agbonlahor did not travel with the squad to France, nor did he feature in Villa’s 1-1 draw against League One outfit Bristol Rovers earlier this week.
Roberto Di Matteo’s side notched up their fourth victory in pre-season thanks to a goal from striker Rudy Gestede in the second-half.
Villa remain unbeaten during pre-season having recorded previous victories against Austrian side GAK, and non-League duo Worcester and Telford.
It is said the senior trio of Joleon Lescott, Libor Kozak and Micah Richards missed the game through injury, while Jordan Amavi is not being risked after returning from a serious knee injury.
Agbonlahor, 29, has been highly criticised by the Villa Park faithful for his lacklustre performances, which saw him net just one goal last term.
It resulted in the ex-Villa captain being put on a fitness regime at the back-end of last season, as the club’s management criticised his fitness levels.
In other Aston Villa team news, owner Tony Xia has identified who he thinks the club captain should be, points out the player’s qualities.
