Ligue 1 outfit Nice are keen to end Newcastle striker Emmanuel Riviere’s nightmare stay on Tyneside by bringing him back to France, according to a report.

Newspaper Nice Matin claim that Nice manager Lucien Favre is interested in bringing the 26-year-old back to his home country.

Doubt has surrounded the future of Riviere, with French magazine France Football claiming European trio Olympiakos, Rennes and Hamburg were all keen on the striker earlier this month.

Favre is looking to add firepower to his side though, following the sale of former Magpie Hatem Ben Arfa to Spanish giants Sevilla.

The former France under-21 international moved to Tyneside for around £6million last summer, after impressing in the red and white of Ligue 1 giants Monaco.

However, Riviere has failed to produce the goods in England; scoring just three goals in 34 Magpies appearances.

He has three years remaining on his Newcastle contract but is deemed surplus to requirements after slipping behind Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez in the club’s forward pecking order.

Riviere’s reputation in France is good one after spells at Toulouse, Saint Etienne and Monaco.

The forward was a mainstay for all three sides and scored 36 goals and supplied 16 assists in 147 Ligue 1 appearances.

In other Newcastle transfer news, manager Rafa Benitez will have to look elsewhere as this flamboyant Championship playmaker ruled out a move via his Twitter account.
