Chris Wood’s eye-catching form in front of goal has propelled Leeds from early relegation candidates into promotion contenders.
Leeds are currently fifth in the Championship, and the former Leicester City attacker has found the back of the net 12 times in 22 league and cup encounters.
But, with Swedish forward Marcus Antonsson failing to provide adequate back up, another attacker is desperately needed to take some of the pressure off Wood’s shoulders.
Here are three forwards with Premier League experience that should be considered by manager Garry Monk in January:
Struggling to gain a place in the West Brom side as Salomon Rondon continues to turn heads, Wales’ Euro 2016 hero could be allowed to leave the Hawthorns.
The 27-year-old has plenty of experience in the second tier of English football, after almost a decade with Reading where he helped the side up to the Premier League for the 2012/13 season.
Making just eight substitute appearances this season, the versatile attacker could add serious quality as a centre-forward and a right-winger to Monk’s squad.
Middlesbrough are set to conduct a mini exodus in January including Nugent, with teammate Jordan Rhodes also expected to drop down a division.
Alvaro Negredo, Christian Stuani and Viktor Fishcher are all ahead of the attacking duo in the pecking order under Spanish boss Aitor Karanka.
Nugent has scored 103 Championship goals throughout his career for the likes of Preston, Portsmouth and Leicester as well as his current club, and his undeniable eye for goal would make him a shrewd signing.
The Crystal Palace forward has been forced to watch from the sidelines after the £30million signing of Christian Benteke.
The 29-year-old is known for his pace and ability to beat a man, which Leeds lack up-front with target man Wood.
An impressive rate of 22 goals in 46 Championship games for both Hull and Cardiff proves that Campbell could score a number of important goals for the Yorkshire giants, if Monk looks to bring the one-time England international to Elland Road.
