Tony Xia has hinted that Aston Villa are in the market for one more signing before the transfer window shuts.
The Birmingham Mail claimed on Thursday evening that Villa have been given a boost in their pursuit of Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford.
It is said Roberto Di Matteo is still trying to persuade the 22-year-old to make a loan switch to the Midlands side.
Xia responded on Thursday to a supporter querying about the club’s pursuit of an authentic striker and the Chinese businessman suggested that the club are trying to push one final deal over the line.
“I think that maybe it will be the last and most challenging deal for us before the [transfer] window closes,” Xia wrote on his personal Twitter account.
The Chinese tycoon purchased the Championship club in June for £75 million and has helped Roberto Di Matteo acquire six new players during the summer transfer window.
Crystal Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak was the latest signing for Di Matteo, with the 32-year-old making a switch from the Premier League to Championship on Wednesday afternoon.
The club’s most expensive signing has been striker Ross McCormack who joined for a Championship-record fee of £12million from Championship rivals Fulham.
