Tony Xia has revealed that Ravel Morrison is not on Aston Villa’s transfer shortlist.

The Villa owner has taken to Twitter to pour cold water on speculation linking the controversial Lazio player with a move to the Championship club.

The possibility of Morrison moving to Villa Park was first aired last month when he started following the club’s official Twitter account and it gathered further momentum a fortnight ago when he followed the new goalkeeper signing Pierluigi Gollini.

Questioned on Sunday about fresh rumours of a Villa move for Morrison, Xia replied on his personal Twitter account that the attacking midfielder “hasn’t been on our list”.

The 23-year-old midfielder joined Lazio from Manchester United but has failed to settle in Italy, making just six appearances in all competitions last season.

The former Verona shot-stopper will know Morrison from their days in the Old Trafford youth set-up.

Morrison, who is contracted to Serie A club Lazio until the summer of 2019, began following the Villa Twitter account at the end of July.

The playmaker was once regarded as one of the most gifted young footballers in the country, but reported attitude problems has seen the 23-year-old’s career take a number of setbacks.

Morrison has only made 70 senior appearances since graduating from the Manchester United academy in 2010.
