Tony Xia has revealed that Aston Villa will unveil their new technical director at the start of next month.

The Villa owner gave an update in the club’s search for a new transfer guru on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday evening.

XIa did not disclose the identity of the incoming director of football but it has been widely reported that Steve Round is heading to Villa Park.

The Birmingham Mail claimed last weekend that the ex-Manchester United and Everton assistant will be charged with overseeing the club’s recruitment and overseeing their transfer dealings.

Round was in the stands as Villa beat Rotherham 3-0 on Saturday and is set to be appointed to the new role this week.

Xia said the unnamed new man will start work for the Championship club on 1 September after his previous contract ends on 31 August.

It has been reported that manager Roberto Di Matteo will still have a final say on transfers, and that the Italian has given his blessing to the appointment of Round.

Round is a highly-rated and experienced coach, and is now set to dedicate a large chunk of his time with improving the long-term strategy of the Championship club.

Villa chief executive Keith Wyness has previously worked with Round at Everton.

Paddy Riley is the current head of recruitment, but he was heavily criticised for his involvement in the club’s  woeful summer signings for the 2015-16  Premier League season which led to their relegation.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, the club have agreed a deal with a midfield enforcer.
