An international star will undergo a West Ham medical this week, according to a report.
A columnist called the Insider has claimed on the official West Ham website that the club are putting the finishing touches to a transfer.
It is said they are close to adding to their squad and hope to conclude a deal within the next 72 hours.
“The club have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring in new additions and it is my understanding that there could be a major addition to the squad in the near future,” wrote the Insider.
“I have been told that a top international player will be undergoing a medical with the club and they hope to conclude a deal within the next 72 hours.”
The Hammers have made clear their ambitions to spend big on attacking talent in the forthcoming transfer window.
They have already had a £31million bid rejected for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette and Bournemouth have confirmed they have turned down a stunning £25million double offer for striker Callum Wilson and winger Matt Richie.
Manager Slaven Bilic has also said that he wants to sign Besiktas pair Atiba Hutchinson and Gokhan Tore in a landmark double deal.
The Insider added on the West Ham website: “There has been a lot of speculation linking the Hammers with moves for Tore and Hutchinson.
“My sources have told me that negotiations have taken place and although the club remain hopeful, there is still some way to go before a deal can be agreed.
“I have been assured that there are many irons in the fire and the club will continue to get the best possible deals.”
West Ham are ready to smash their club record transfer fee of £15.5million, which was spent to entice Andy Carroll from Liverpool in the summer of 2013.
Carroll is comfortably the Hammers’ record signing, although the club have also spent £10million-plus fees on the likes of Payet, Enner Valencia and Angel Ogbonna.
In other West Ham news, teen sensation Reece Oxford is increasingly likely to leave the club this summer.
