Football Insider names the Tottenham player of the year for 2016.

Harry Kane has been Tottenham’s best player in a very successful year for Mauricio Pochettino’s outfit.

The 23-year-old academy graduate has been in fantastic form for the north London club this year, which saw Spurs qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2011.

He has established himself as a Premier League goal machine after breaking through the Tottenham youth system in 2011 and his goals don’t appear to be drying up.

The England international has 24 goals to his name for the year and he finished as the 2015-16 Premier League top scorer with 25 goals in total, one more strike than both Sergio Aguero and Jamie Vardy in second.

Kane has already exceeded expectations of fans when the striker was coming through the youth ranks, which included loans to Football League sides Leyton Orient and Millwall.

He even struggled to make an impact with Norwich in the Premier League before taking up a role as a squad player in the Championship with Leicester, where he scored just two goals in 15 encounters.

However, with a total of 73 goals in 142 appearances for Spurs he is well on to becoming a legend of the club.

Fans will be overjoyed that the forward penned a new six-year contract at the north London outfit at the beginning of the month.

He will now be looking to help Tottenham win that elusive first Premier League title, but beforehand he must ensure Spurs once again finish in the top four.

With just one point separating Tottenham from north London rivals Arsenal in fourth, 2017 could be another year to remember for Kane and his side.

In other Tottenham news, Pochettino has told what 24-year-old must do to reach the top.
