Southampton are keen on signing Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer, according to a report.
The Daily Mirror claim that the Saints want to sign the 24-year-old in the summer to help form a solid centre-back combination alongside Virgil van Dijk.
It is understood that Spurs are prepared to sell the Austria international and want £20million for his signature.
However, the report details that Southampton will demand the north London club drop their asking price before firming up their interest.
Wimmer has struggled to cement his position during his time with Spurs and made just 10 senior appearances last season.
The centre-back has become a squad member under Mauricio Pochettino and been unable to force his way in ahead of the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier.
He has played just 31 times since his arrival in 2015 from German club Cologne and could leave in search of regular first-team football.
Football Insider verdict:
Spurs will be making the right decision to allow Wimmer’s exit in the summer, but are unlikely to get £20million in return. The defender is a talented product and has all the tools to succeed in the Premier League. He has shown when used that he is an accomplished centre-back and already plays an important role for his national side. However, it’s unreasonable to demand £20million for a player that has been on the fringes of the Spurs squad despite his huge potential. Wimmer should be trying to force a move in the summer to help his first-team chances as he is too good to be stuck on the bench for another season.
In other Tottenham transfer news, they are preparing a £15million bid for a 23-year-old Premier League ace.
