Eric Dier was named in Garth Crooks team of the week as his side battled out a 1-1 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates – but there was no room for north London derby man-of-the-match Mousa Dembele.
It was a relatively tame affair between the two sides and Arsenal missed an opportunity to move to the top of the Premier League after Manchester City drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough.
However, Tottenham’s versatile star Dier produced another solid display at centre-back to thwart the threats of Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez.
Crooks named Dier as one of his five defenders in a 5-3-2 system and the Tottenham ace lined up alongside three Chelsea players, two Manchester United stars and Liverpool goalscorers, Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho.
Dier has played in the centre-back role since Toby Alderweireld picked up an injury during Spurs’ 1-1 draw against West Brom and has performed well, despite his side enduring a rough patch of form.
Tottenham currently sit in fifth position, out of a Champions League spot and have picked up just one victory in their last eight games.
Sunday’s draw was Spurs’ seventh this season and their fifth in their last seven fixtures. Harry Kane’s goal-scoring return will have been a positive sign for Tottenham fans though.
Team of the week in full: Jordan Pickford, Victor Moses, David Luiz, Dier, Matt Dawson, George Friend, Eden Hazard, Paul Pogba, Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane, Zlatan Ibrahimovic
