Jan Vertonghen’s knee is still in a brace as he continues his recovery from a ligament damage that will sideline him for possibly months.

The Tottenham centre-back uploaded a photograph to his Instagram account on Sunday that showed his left knee in a brace while he watched the Sunday afternoon Premier League clash between Chelsea and Manchester United on television.

Spurs revealed at the end of last month that the Belgium international has sprained the medial collateral ligament in his knee.

Tottenham have not revealed how long they expect the defender to be sidelined but sources said it could be for three to four months.

The defender limped off 74 minutes into the team’s 3-1 win at Crystal Palace 15 days ago. He injured a knee when he fell awkwardly after seemingly being elbowed by Palace striker Connor Wickham

Spurs have coped well in Vertonghen’s absence, winning all three matches, including their last two matches in the Premier League against Watford and Norwich.

Austrian Kevin Wimmer has slotted in well alongside Toby Alderweireld, who has played every minute of the season in the Premier League.
