Toby Alderweireld is in talks to sign a new contract at White Hart Lane as manager Mauricio Pochettino continues to tie down his squad, according to a report.
The Belgium international has been in fine form for the North London club this season, starring at the heart of Pochettino’s defence alongside fellow countryman Jan Vertonghen.
According to The Mirror, the Argentinian boss is looking to secure the 27-year-old’s long-term future with a new contract, after already confirming deals with Kyle Walker, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.
Former Atletico Madrid defender Alderweireld followed Pochettino to Tottenham last summer after they worked together at Southampton.
The versatile stopper has played a major part in helping Spurs keep four clean sheets during his eight league and cup appearances for the Premier League title contenders this season.
Despite more than three years remaining on his current contract, the Ajax academy graduate is set to be imminently rewarded with a new deal, with the Champions League outfit targeting a new long-term contract for club captain Hugo Lloris next.
Chairman Daniel Levy had talks with Lloris before the European Championships in the summer and the offer of a contract extension is firmly in the pipeline.
That will take the total number of players to have signed contracts in recent weeks to nine, as Harry Winks, Danny Rose, Tom Carroll and England star Eric Dier have also signed deals, with Pochettino looks to stabilise the club.
In other Tottenham news, Harry Redknapp has made this claim after the Telegraph scandal.
