Tottenham fans have posted their excitement on Twitter ahead of their side’s Champions League clash against Monaco at Wembley on Wednesday evening.

The north London side will welcome the Ligue 1 cash-rich team in Europe’s elite competition in their first match at the famous London ground due to redevelopment work at White Hart Lane.

Wembley will be close to capacity for the showdown after Tottenham revealed last week they had sold over 80,000 tickets for the match, which will break the attendance record for an English club in the Champions League.

They have been drawn in a group, which will see them face Bayer Leverkusen and CSKA Moscow, as well as Monaco.

Spurs fans took to Twitter to express their delight ahead of their first clash in the Champions League following the 2010-11 season, as well as their first home fixture at Wembley.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

It is said that Tottenham will be supported by over 80,000 fans at Wembley.

The last time the north London side were in the competition, they were knocked out by La Liga giants Real Madrid in a 5-0 defeat at the quarter final stages.

However, they will be aiming to go even further in the competition this time around under boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The north London side have started the new campaign in good form with the most recent 4-0 victory over Stoke falling alongside two draws and a victory against Crystal Palace.

In other Tottenham news, Peter Crouch has named Spurs’ victory over AC Milan at the San Siro as his favourite moment during the 2010-11 season.
