Upon learning that Tottenham are preparing a club-record £37.8million swoop for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, Spurs fans couldn’t contain their excitement on Twitter.
The Nerazzuri captain has been linked with all of Europe’s heavyweights this summer but Mauricio Pochettino is willing to throw a big chunk of his transfer budget on his fellow countryman.
Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims on his website that Spurs have sent representatives to Milan to meet with Icardi’s agent.
The 23-year-old was Inter’s top scorer this season, finding the back of the net 16 times in 33 Serie A games.
Some fans were impressed with the ambition that Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy are showing, although a section of the club’s support are more sceptical.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Oh please stop with the icardi nonsense, levy wouldn't pay 45 million for Messi let alone icardi

Personally, I'll throw the 'kitchen sink' at Mauro Icardi.

I find it hard to believe that #Spurs would be in for Icardi, especially at that price. Crackin player but not a nice person apparently

The only world where Spurs are actually bidding for icardi is the world where they are selling Harry Kane

So Tottenham fans are yet to be convinced over whether Icardi is actually coming to White Hart Lane, with many very excited too.
In other Tottenham news, these two Tottenham players can’t wait to be reunited.
