Cameron Carter-Vickers made his Tottenham debut on Wednesday night – and fans took to Twitter to commend his display.
The 18-year-old centre-back was handed his first competitive appearance against Gillingham in the EFL Cup as Mauricio Pochettino’s side won 5-0 to secure a smooth passage to the last-16 of the competition.
Pochettino made 11 changes from the team that won 1-0 in the Premier League against Sunderland on Sunday, a match in which the USA Under-23 initernational was an unused substitute.
The Spurs manager had hailed Carter-Vickers’ immense potential in the build-up to the EFL Cup clash and he responded with a mature display alongside the more experienced Kevin Wimmer.
Supporters were delighted that Pochettino had given the full 90 minutes to the teenager, who has made huge strides over the last 12 months and has regularly been named in matchday squads.
Fans praised his poise on the ball and were impressed by his partnership with Wimmer.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

@GaffneyVLC You’re forgetting the fact Carter-Vickers is Puyol, too. Beast in the air.
