Dele Alli played 72 minutes of England’s 0-0 draw against Slovenia on Tuesday – and even Tottenham fans condemned the sloppiness of his display.
The Spurs midfielder had been given the nod by interim manager Gareth Southgate to start in the No10 role ahead of the likes of axed skipper Wayne Rooney.
But Alli failed to match the heights of his recent performances in the Group F World Cup qualifier and was substituted for Rooney with 18 minutes remaining and the match goal-less.
England fans on social media were unimpressed with Alli’s performance, and Spurs fans were just glad that he was playing in the kit of his country rather than his club.
Others who support Mauricio Pochettino’s side were glad that Alli did not get injured and would be available for their trip to West Brom on Saturday.

“Dele” – probably the most over rated player going. Alongside Barkley. #ENG ??

I do not rate Alli that highly, I don’t care what you say Wayne Rooney is still the best English player, by far. Sad. #ENG

@StanCollymore unless Eng play like Arsenal then Walcott is useless as wide player. Rooney will be lol at this. Alli too hot or cold

Alli had scored for England in their 2-0 win over Malta on Saturday after going into the international break in form following an excellent performance in Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Manchester City.
