Erik Lamela put the finishing touches to a vibrant Tottenham display as they beat Manchester United 3-0 in Sunday’s Premier League showdown.

The Argentine was voted man-of-the-match by host broadcaster Sky Sports as Spurs beat United in a home league game for the first time since May 2001.

Three goals in the space of six barely believable second-half minutes from Dele Alli, Toby Alderweireld and Lamela handed the north Londoners all three points and kept alive the team’s slim title hopes.

Spurs have narrowed the gap on leaders Leicester to seven points, although they face an uphill challenge to overcome the leaders, who won 2-0 at Sunderland earlier on Sunday.

Nonetheless, Tottenham fans were delighted with the response of the players, which was epitomised by the energy, work-rate and flair of Lamela.

The Argentine, who was unavailable for last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Liverpool, produced a first-time finish out of the very top drawer when he latched on to Danny Rose’s skimmed cross.

Spurs fans took to Twitter to express their appreciation.
