Erik Lamela played poorly in Tottenham’s 2-1 loss against Monaco on Wednesday evening- and fans slated the winger on Twitter after the match.

Lamela, 24, became an integral component of Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team last season but struggled in Spurs’ first Champions League fixture of the new season.

The Argentine assisted Toby Alderweireld’s goal with a pinpoint corner but was not at his best after being given the nod to start ahead of Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama and Moussa Sissoko.

Supporters on social media vented their anger at the attackers display while one fan questioned Lamela worth to the club.

Here is a collection of the best Tweets in regards to his performance:

Mauricio Pochettino’s side lost control of the clash after two early goals from Monaco put the game out of reach for the home side.

The visitors took the lead in the game after clinical finishes from Bernardo Silva and Thomas Lemar took advantage of ragged Spurs defending.

But Alderweireld gave the home side hope with a superbly-taken header from Lamela’s corner shortly before half-time.

That though was to be the end of the scoring, leaving Spurs bottom of their Champions League group after one match.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs have released a video of Kyle Walker singing the Champions League theme tune – and fans have taken to Twitter to mock the defender.
