Son Heung-Min was withdrawn 61 minutes into Tottenham’s 0-0 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday – and fans on Twitter erupted in fury.
The south Korean had been selected to spearhead the Spurs attack for the second time in three league matches.
But the Premier League player of the month for September could not maintain his fine run of goalscoring and break the deadlock against Eddie Howe’s side.
Nevertheless, it was a surprise that manager Mauricio Pochettino opted to take off Son when he introduced striker Vincent Janssen at the hour mark.
Spurs fans took to social media to claim that Son should have stayed on the pitch at the Vitality Stadium and that Erik Lamela should have been taken off instead.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
I would have kept Son on and replaced Lamella…#COYS
