Kieran Trippier was a surprise inclusion for Tottenham against CSKA Moscow – and the club’s supporters gave mixed responses on Twitter to his performance.

Mauricio Pochettino included Trippier in his starting line up ahead of regular right-back Kyle Walker, something which came as a shock to the club’s supporters.

Trippier, 26, played the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 win against CSKA and helped keep a clean sheet away from home.

In-form attacker Heung-Min Son scored the decisive goal in the second-half after stabbing the ball home from an Erik Lamela pass.

Spurs bounced back from their opening group defeat to Monaco and will hope to qualify for the knockout rounds.

Trippier has been the understudy to Walker since he arrived at White Hart Lane from Burnley.

The right-back made just his second appearance of the season and CSKA, with his other game time coming in the 5-0 win against Gillingham in the EFL Cup.

Pochettino may have had one eye on Sunday’s Premier League match with Manchester City and decided to rest the influential Walker for that.

Spurs supporters were undecided on Twitter about the performance of Trippier but it appears he has not done anything to become the club’s first-choice option yet.

In other Tottenham team news, the club’s fans reacted on Twitter to Vincent Janssen’s performance against CSKA.
