Moussa Dembele appeared to claw at Diego Costa’s eye in one of a number of flashpoints in Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
With Spurs heading into half-time with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son, tensions began to boil over in a feisty London derby after one scuffle too many.
Willian began the fracas after he shoved Danny Rose by the touchline following a strong challenge from the England international.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino looked to immediately quell the flashpoint only to become embroiled in what became a larger melee.
Both sets of benches and players got involved but Dembele and Costa’s tussle went under the radar of the referee, an attack that would have been a certain red card for the Belgian had it not been missed.
The incident drew an array of responses on Twitter, prompting both light-hearted and serious reactions.
I love how Costa grabs the wrong side of his face after Debele scrawls him…???https://t.co/uPJrOPUv6s

Disgusted to see Costa's eye assaulting Dembele's fingers there. Suspension awaits.

Dembele lucky to be on the pitch after that attempted eye gouge on Costa. Otherwise, first half going to form.
