Tottenham fans reacted with surprise and celebration as young midfielder Dylan Duncan was invited to train with the England senior squad ahead of their clash against Spain.
Wayne Rooney and Ryan Bertrand have been forced to miss England’s training session on Monday after picking up minor issues so Duncan has been called up to the session in order to make up numbers.
He will not feature in Tuesday night’s international friendly against Spain but the 17 year-old will be given the opportunity to gain valuable experience in an important pre-match training session.
Gareth Southgate named a 25-man squad because England had a number of players with knocks prior to their first World Cup qualifier against Scotland and a number have already returned to their clubs.
Tottenham striker Harry Kane was released from the squad on Sunday afternoon meaning on only 19 international stars were available for training prior to Duncan’s arrival.
The youngster is yet to make a first team appearance for Tottenham after joining in the summer of 2015 but with the training session taking place at Tottenham’s base, he has been given an opportunity to impress Southgate.
