Eric Dier has dropped to Tottenham’s bench for Saturday’s clash against West Brom – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter with disappointment to his omission.
The 22-year-old England international has been a key part of the north London side’s impressive defensive set-up since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2014 for £4million.
He has featured in seven encounters for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the new campaign, but after returning from international duty as well as a midweek clash against Bayer Leverkusen coming up it is believed that he has been rested.
Spurs fans took to social media to share that they had some sympathy for the defensive midfielder, while others were quick to point out that Pochettino was also focused on the game in midweek.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

@spurs_report Are we looking past WBA? No Son, Rose, Dembele, Dier… in the starting XI.

@JakLew89 Dier is recently back from injury. But we don't really have a first XI atm, lots of rotation

Other notable omissions for Spurs include Mousa Dembele, Son Heung-min and Danny Rose, which has led to many believing that Pochettino is looking more towards the Champions League.
However, Tottenham could leapfrog Manchester City and sit at the top of the Premier League at the end of the afternoon with Spurs just a point behind the league leaders.
Pep Guardiola’s side face a difficult contest against Ronald Koeman’s Everton team at the Etihad Stadium.
In other Tottenham team news, Harry Kane has revealed on Twitter that he is “feeling better everyday”.
