Eric Dier played the full 90 minutes of England’s 0-0 draw against Slovenia on Tuesday – and even Tottenham fans condemned the sloppiness of his display.

The Spurs midfielder had been given the nod by interim manager Gareth Southgate to start in central midfield alongside Jordan Henderson ahead of axed skipper Wayne Rooney.

But the tone was set in the early exchanges when Dier’s blind back pass almost led to England going a goal behind in the Group F World Cup qualifier.

Pundit and Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle was unimpressed by Dier’s decision to pass back to goalkeeper Joe Hart from close to the halfway line without looking up to see the play.

England fans on social media were unimpressed with Dier’s performance, and Spurs fans were just glad that he was playing in the kit of his country rather than his club.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The Spurs anchorman, 22, had spent a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury before the international break and was a substitute in Spurs’ 2-0 win over Manchester City.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs are “crazy” about a 24-year-old that Mauricio Pochettino wants to sign in the January transfer window.
