Former Tottenham duo Luka Modric and Gareth Bale have been named in the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or – and Spurs fans have reacted with delight on Twitter.

The Real Madrid duo have been nominated after a fantastic season that saw both hold aloft the Champions League trophy after a penalty shootout win against Atletico Madrid.

Bale also enjoyed a sparkling Euro 2016 campaign with Wales, as they defied the odds to reach the semi finals of the tournament before being knocked out by eventual winners Portugal.

Former White Hart Lane stars Modric and Bale both moved to Real for a combined £120million after starring for Tottenham during their time in North London.

Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to express their pride of their former stars for once again being nominated, with many reminiscing of their time with Spurs.

Bale was a Tottenham player for six years after moving to London from Southampton back in 2007, and scored an impressive 55 goals during his time at White Hart Lane in 204 league and cup encounters.

Like Bale, Modric starred for Spurs before moving to Real Madrid after creating a total of 27 strikes in 164 appearances for the Premier League title contenders.
