Tottenham’s Twitter following have regretted their club’s decision to allow Kevin Stewart to join Liverpool, after he starred for Jurgen Klopp’s side on Tuesday night.
Stewart played at the base of the Merseyside giants’ midfield, as Liverpool secured a 2-1 win against Mauricio Pochettino’s men thanks to a brace from Daniel Sturridge.
The midfielder looked calm and assured in the Liverpool midfield, alongside Georginio Wijnaldum and Ovie Ejaria as Sturridge’s fine finishing earned the Reds a place in the EFL Cup quarter finals.
Stewart moved north to Merseyside after being told he could leave White Hart Lane in 2014, and has since made 17 appearances in all competitions for Klopp’s side since the move.
Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to express their regret at allowing Stewart to join Liverpool, despite being on the books at Spurs.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Don't understand why Tottenham let Stewart go

One can only assume Spurs got Kevin Stewart and Tom Carroll mixed up when they released Stewart two years ago. #LIVTOT

@rwaggy26 Stewart was a steady but unspectacular RB at Spurs.

If you know Kev Stewart or have watched him over the years you'll know this is exactly how he played at Spurs. Relaxed both footed baller!

Tottenham looked to have secured a lifeline when under-fire striker Vincent Janssen converted from the penalty spot with 15 minutes remaining, but the score remained 2-1.
Stewart’s inclusion in the side was his sixth appearance of the season and 17th appearance for the Merseyside giants since his Liverpool debut back in January 2016 against Exeter.
Liverpool’s number 35 has also had loan spells with Cheltenham Town, Swindon Town, Crewe Alexandra and Burton Albion.
