Kevin Wimmer started for Austria in his country’s clash against Wales on Thursday evening, but Tottenham fans on Twitter weren’t happy with what they saw from their defender.
The two countries clashed in Austria in a 2018 World Cup qualification fixture, which saw the two side’s draw 2-2.
Stoke midfielder Joe Allen scored early on before club team-mate Marko Arnautovic scored to level the score line. Wimmer then put his side behind again with an unfortunate own goal before Arnautovic bagged his second of the match.
Spurs fans weren’t happy with what they saw from the 23-year-old defender on social media and some felt that Mauricio Pochettino’s decision not to play him was justified with the performance.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Wimmer at fault for Wales 2nd goal. MP justified to not have him in the squad this season ?

Funny thing is, I'm not worried about CCV playing against Liverpool… I'm worried about Wimmer getting exposed by Mane's pace

I won't criticise Wimmer as I think he's decent & did a good job last season. However I do think he is slightly overrated by the majority

Wimmer has only made one appearance for the north London club in the new campaign, in a League Cup clash against Gillingham where he helped play in a 5-0 victory.
He faces tough competition from star duo Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen at the heart of Spurs’ defence, while emerging star Cameron Carter-Vickers is also looking to break into the first team.
In other Tottenham team news, Victor Wanyama has said Spurs are up there with his former club Celtic.
