Tottenham have completed the signing of Moussa Sissoko – and the club’s supporters have hailed him as just the player their team need.

Spurs confirmed on their website on Wednesday night that the midfielder has joined White Hart Lane on a five-year deal and will wear the number 17 shirt.

The 27-year-old appeared to be on the brink of joining Premier League rivals Everton deadline day but opted to join Spurs, with the offer of Champions League football thought to have been one of the factors in swaying the deal.

The Tottenham supporters have expressed their delight after securing Sissoko and have high expectations of him.

Here are a selection of the messages:

The Frenchman was appeared to be travelling to Everton to undergo a medical but ignored attempts from manager Ronald Koeman to contact him on Wednesday night.

Sky Sports claimed on their transfer centre blog on Wednesday (10.07pm) that Spurs had subsequently equalled the £30million offer submitted by Everton for the Newcastle attacking midfielder earlier in the evening.

Sissoko can operate anywhere across the midfield and was used as a right winger by hosts France at Euro 2016.

His individual performances were well praised at the tournament and had his heart set on leaving Newcastle this summer following their relegation to the Championship.

The Frenchman will have competition from Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and summer recruit Victor Wanyama for a starting spot in the centre of midfield.

With Mauricio Pochettino’s side having the added fixtures from the Champions League he is likely to rely upon his whole squad, so Sissoko could be seen in several positions at White Hart Lane.

In other Tottenham transfer news, their fans have reacted on Twitter to the news that Jack Wilshere has moved to Bournemouth.
