Jack Wilshere has made an early return from the Euros with his fellow humiliated England teammates following the team’s atrocious performance against Iceland on Monday – and supporters of Arsenal’s rival Tottenham ripped into him on Twitter.
Wilshere’s selection in the England squad for Euro 2016 was questioned beforehand as he had not completed a full 90 minutes in the recently completed domestic season.
It was argued among England supporters that the likes of Premier League winner Danny Drinkwater and West Ham captain Mark Noble deserved a spot ahead of the Arsenal man.
Those fears were partly vindicated by the 24-year-old’s lacklustre performances in the tournament as he looked way off the pace in the three matches in which he was involved.
Like all of his team-mates in the 2-1 defeat against Iceland, half-time substitute Wilshere failed to deliver as his touch, passing and energy levels were well below the required standard.
Many Tottenham supporters took pleasure in Wilshere’s poor performances and the midfielder’s Euro 2016 demise.
