Tottenham have lined up two back-up options in case they are not able to prise to Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle this summer, according to a report.

The Mail Online report that Newcastle are holding out for at least £25million for the Dutchman but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy believes the quoted figure is way too high for a player who was recently relegated to the Championship.

It is said that Spurs have shortlisted two back-up options as an alternative to Wijnaldum, 25.

Pochettino is also tracking FC Mainz star Yunus Malli as he looks to land an attacking midfielder before the transfer window closes.

The Turkey international, 24, is a long-term target of Pochettino and he was even a guest at White Hart Lane last season.

Malli. has scored 24 goals and provided 15 assists in 122 appearances for Bundesliga outfit Mainz.

Winger Soufiane Boufal, who plays for Lille, is also an option for Tottenham on the back of his fine 2015-16 campaign, in which he scored 11 goals in 29 league games for the club.

Wijnaldum also grabbed 11 league goals last season, albeit in 38 top-flight appearances, and is keen to leave Newcastle just 12 months after his arrival from PSV Eindhoven for £14.5million.

Spurs turned their attention to Wijnaldum after abandoning their pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze, who has agreed to re-join former club Borussia Dortmund.

His nation failed to qualify for this summer’s European Championships, but Wijnaldum played a key role in the nation’s third-placed finish at the 2014 World Cup.

After earning his first International call up back in 2011, he has gone on to become an important player and grabbed the second goal in their 3-0 win against Brazil at the World Cup.

Pochettino has already taken his summer spending beyond the £30million mark after signing forward Vincent Janssen for £18.8million, and midfield enforcer Victor Wanyama from Southampton for around £12million last month.

In other Tottenham transfer news, the club are keeping close tabs on a highly rated Holland central midfielder.
