Tottenham have made an enquiry for Coventry midfielder James Maddison, Football Insider sources understand.
The Londoners are one of a number of Premier League clubs who are keen on signing the 19-year-old Englishman.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that they are interested in landing Maddison in the January window.
One possibility is that the 19-year-old could be bought for a multi-million pound fee in this window before being loaned back to the League One club for the rest of the campaign.
Tottenham did a similar deal with Milton Keynes Dons a year ago for Dele Alli, and it proved to have huge benefits for both parties.
Coventry manager Tony Mowbray claimed on Thursday that his club have not received any offers for the youngster although he admitted there is strong interest in Maddison.
Speaking at his media briefing, Mowbray said: “No bids, plenty of enquiries.”
Maddison has caught the eye with his performances this season in Coventry’s midfield. He has been used principally in attacking midfield by the club, although he can also play in central midfield.
In 30 appearances for the third-tier outfit since breaking into the team last season, Maddison has scored four goals and supplied five assists.
In other Tottenham transfer news, the club are working on a deal to sign Fulham striker Mousa Dembele, although the west Londoners want a player in part-exchange.
