Tottenham are back in the race to sign Saido Berahino amid new doubts surrounding their hopes of signing Moussa Dembele from Fulham, Football Insider sources understand.

Spurs have made a fresh enquiry for Berahino after having four bids for the West Brom striker rejected last summer.

The Londoners have held talks with Fulham about a January deal for Dembele but a source close to the situation has told Football Insider that the 19-year-old forward has been told he will remain at Craven Cottage until the end of the season.

However, Fulham are keen to secure an agreement this month for Dembele to join a Premier League club as he is out of contract at the end of the season and can move overseas for a small compensation fee of £300,000.

Dembele has interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, but could secure a better deal from a Continental club, with Juventus and Monaco leading the chase.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has sanctioned a new move for Berahino, who is also on the radar of Chelsea and Newcastle.

The striker has made it clear that he wants to leave the Hawthorns and West Brom manager Tony Pulis admitted earlier in the January window that the club would be willing to sell Berahino for the right price.

Mauricio Pochettino still regards regards Berahino highly even though he has scored just three league goals this season, and only six in total.

West Brom could be tempted to sell Berahino this window as he only has 18 months remaining on his contract at the Hawthorns and Pulis has questioned the player’s attitude on a number of occasions.
