Mauricio Pochettino was spotted meeting Sir Alex Ferguson for lunch in Mayfair on Tuesday.
Photographs in The Sun caught the Tottenham manager and Manchester United director outside swanky Scott’s restaurant in the West End.
Jesus Perez, who is Pochettino’s assistant manager at Spurs, was also at the meeting in London.
Former United manager Ferguson looked in good spirits as he left the meeting and got into a waiting car, while Pochettino looked rather sheepish.
Current boss Louis van Gaal seems set to lose his job this summer and the pictures caused an immediate fuss on social media, with claims that Ferguson could be using his influence to try to convince Pochettino to leave north London.
Yet it is claimed the lunch was arranged because there is mutual admiration from both sides and that Tottenham were also aware of the talks taking place.
Ferguson is known to admire Pochettino, who recently attempted to put to bed concerns about his future by revealing he has a verbal agreement in place to stay with Spurs until 2021.
Tottenham, who hope to clinch second place when they travel to Newcastle on Sunday, missed out on the title this season but Ferguson considers the Argentine the best manager in the Premier League.
Speaking earlier this season, the legendary former United boss said of Tottenham: “Well, the manager [Pochettino] has been fantastic.
“They have a bad record of managers, there is no doubt about that. They have had so many over the years, but this lad has composure.
“You never see him ruffled and the way his team play is a testimony to the work he is doing.”
In other Tottenham news, Graeme Souness has claimed Mauricio Pochettino has got lucky at both Spurs and former club Southampton.
