Dimitar Berbatov regards former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane as one of the best players he ever played with.

The striking duo struck up a formidable partnership in the two years they spent at White Hart Lane together and Berbatov has picked Keane in his dream team.

Keane was a fan favourite in almost ten years at Tottenham, scoring 117 goals in 291 appearances, and Berbatov reckons he is the perfect man to lead the line, alongside Wayne Rooney.

“I struck a great partnership with Robbie Keane at Tottenham,” said Berbatov on the Fantasy Football show. “We didn’t speak much off the pitch, although that was down to me not liking to speak much.

“But he knew this and he was like: ‘Berba don’t worry, I know you’. On the pitch he was great and we scored a lot of goals together.

“I liked him as a person. He was tireless, running around screaming, supporting the team-mates, trying to make everybody feel good.

“I never saw him get offended by anything, he was always positive and a great, great guy.”

Berbatov picked his starting eleven from the players he had the privilege of playing alongside in a career that took him to Manchester United, Bayern Leverkeusen and Monaco, as well as Tottenham.

The striker has played upfront alongside the likes of Carlos Tevez and Radamel Falcao, but surprisingly opted for the less heralded Keane in his dream team.

Another Spurs player Berbatov admired was Ledley King, who the Bulgarian believes could have been one of the best centre-backs in the world had his career not been wrecked by consistent injuries.

King does not make it into Berbatov’s eleven with Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand getting in ahead of him, but the defender does get a special mention from the striker.

He said: “Ledley King, who I played with at Tottenham, is on a par with them [Vidic and Ferdinand] but, unfortunately, he was prone to injuries a lot which cut his career short.

“Obviously I played with Rio and Vida and, for me, they struck up a great partnership – it was unbelievable.”

Berbatov’s XI: Edwin van der Sar, Gary Neville, Vidic, Ferdinand, Patrice Evra, Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Scholes, Stiliyan Petrov, Ryan Giggs, Rooney, Keane.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs are ready to offload a trio of midfielders this summer.
