Mauricio Pochettino has sparked speculation he is interested in Shane Long after the Spurs boss was spotted in attendance at the Republic of Ireland’s friendly with Holland on Friday night.

The Tottenham manager is keen to sign an established striker this summer and was pictured sitting next to Pat Dolan, the agent of Long.

Long is currently at Southampton and starred in Ireland’s 1-1 draw with Holland as he opened the scoring and ran the Dutch defence ragged for the entirety of the evening.

Pictures emerged on Twitter during the game of Pochettino conversing with Dolan, who acts as Long’s agent and advisor, and has sparked speculation that the Spurs boss was there to personally scout the Ireland international.

Long enjoyed an excellent season with Southampton scoring 13 goals and providing six assists in all competitions for the Saints.

The striker was in fine form at the end of the season and was directly involved in six Southampton goals in the final six games of the campaign.

Long still has two years left on his contract and would presumably not come cheap considering Southampton paid a whopping £15million for his services in 2014.

The 29-year-old has reportedly been attracting the interest of Liverpool, but Spurs may be the more attractive option for Long as he has never played in the Champions League.

Pochettino is looking to give Golden Boot winner Harry Kane a worthy strike partner at White Hart Lane and Long could fit seamlessly into the Argentine’s style of play as the attacker is well known for his boundless energy and selfless nature in attack and defence.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs have been linked with a £25million move for another of Southampton’s stars.
