Tottenham are preparing a club-record swoop for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi with a £37.8million bid being readied, according to a report.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims on his website that Spurs have sent representatives to Milan to meet with Icardi’s agent.

It is said that the London club are ready to make a stunning offer that would smash the club-record £27million fee paid for Erik Lamela three years ago.

However, Inter are reluctant to cash in on the Argentina international.

The Italian club have recently been taken over by Chinese investors and it is believed that the side are waiting to see the value of the final offer before evaluating with the new owners.

The report also claims that Tottenham’s rivals Arsenal are keen on the 23-year-0ld forward alongside Atletico Madrid.

Spurs are looking to add to their striker ranks this summer as boss Mauricio Pochettino looks to take the goal scoring burden off England international Harry Kane, who scored 28 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions in the recently completed season.

A number of strikers have already been linked with a move to North London this summer including Chelsea-bound Michy Batshuayi, new Schalke signing Breel Embolo and AZ Alkmaar’s Vincet Janssen.

However, Icardi could be the most exciting one to Spurs fans as the San Siro ace is considered to have a big future in the game.

The Inter captain bagged 16 goals and four assists in Serie A for the Italian giants in 2015-16, but was left out out of the highly competitive Argentina squad for this summer’s Copa America.

In other Tottenham transfer news, Galatasaray have joined the race for Spurs target Yunus Malli.
