Danny Rose has admitted that the rest of the world is laughing at England following the Sam Allardyce embarrassment.

Alan Shearer was damning about the Football Association and Allardyce in the wake of the manager’s shock departure just one game into his reign.

Tottenham left-back Rose admits the viewpoint of ex-England skipper is feeling by many of the players.

“I saw Alan Shearer say English football has become a laughing stock and it’s hard to say but I agree a bit,” Rose said, as quoted by the Mirror.

“With a manager losing his job after one game, it’s not good in any sense and whatever stance the FA take after the four games [interim boss Gareth Southgate will initially be in charge for], I hope the next England manager will be one for the long term and help us to improve in tournaments.”

Rose claimed it is now down to the players to clear up the mess, after Roy Hodgson resigned following the Euro defeat to tiny Iceland and successor Allardyce lost his job in disgrace having held the post only 67 days.

“When Roy lost his job, we were all there together,” said the defender to the Mirror. “It was a sad experience for me because we all knew at the time and we saw Roy’s face at the time.

“It wasn’t a nice experience and it made us feel guilty, as we should have been because we didn’t beat Iceland.

“There’s only so much stick a manager can take and there has to be a point where the players look at themselves and say, ‘It’s not good enough.’

“With Sam, it came from nowhere. I was just thinking, ‘Who will it be now?’ I don’t want to say it’s a mess, but it’s not nice for English football.

“Everyone, the players, the manager and all the staff, we’ve got to take it on ourselves to try to lift the opinion of English football over the next few games – starting with a positive performance on Saturday against Malta and then another positive performance against Slovenia.”

Rose has returned to fitness after suffering a hamstring injury during the last international break.

The full-back was outstanding last Sunday as Tottenham defeat Premier League leaders Manchester City 2-0 at White Hart Lane.
