Tottenham defender Federico Fazio is set to depart the club even though teammate Jan Vertonghen is set to miss up to four months, according to a report.

Spanish outlet ABCdesevilla claim that centre-back Fazio could leave White Hart Lane in the coming months.

This comes after Belgian broadcaster RTBF reported that Vertonghen has suffered a blow to his ankle in training as Belgium made final preparations for Friday night’s Euro 2016 quarter-final against Wales.

It is said that medics initially thought Vertonghen had suffered just a sprained ankle but further assessment suggested he has damaged his ligaments.

With Toby Alderweireld, Kevin Wimmer and defensive midfielder Eric Dier the only recognised centre-backs, Fazio’s departure could force Mauricio Pochettino to dip into the transfer market for another defender.

The Argentina international joined Spurs from Spanish side Sevilla in 2014, but his time at White Hart Lane has been a disaster which saw him fail to make a single Premier League appearance in 2015-16.

The 29-year-old was loaned back to Sevilla in January where he struggled further, making only four appearances for the now departed Unai Emery.

It is said that a number of clubs are interested in Tottenham’s £8m signing, but neither Spurs or Sevilla want to sign or keep hold of the defender.

In the latest Tottenham news, Bayern manger claims this Tottenham player was a standout performer at Euro 2016.
