Moussa Dembele scored a the perfect hat-trick against Rangers – and the club’s supporters were keen to praise their hero on Twitter.

The 20-year-old striker, who was starting in place of the injured Leigh Griffiths, was the difference between the two sides in his first Old Firm encounter.

Celtic won the match 5-1 and Dembele opened the scoring on 34 minutes with a simple header from a corner.

He doubled his side’s lead with a brilliant individual goal by comfortably avoiding a challenge from Rangers defender Philippe Senders, who was later sent off, and tucking the ball into the net with the outside of his right foot.

Dembele completed a remarkable match by scoring with his preferred foot to complete goals with his left foot, right food and head.

The Celtic fans reacted with delight on Twitter over the performance of their new young forward.

Brendan Rodgers elected to trust Dembele to lead the line in place of the club’s talisman Griffiths and it was only his second start for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic face travel to Camp Nou on Tuesday to face Barcelona in the Champions League and Dembele may have forced his way into the starting XI for that match.

The reigning Scottish champions have now opened up a four-point cushion at the top of the league and maintain their 100 per cent record with four consecutive wins.
