David Luiz has re-signed for Chelsea – and the club’s supporters have expressed their delight over the deal.

Chelsea confirmed on their website that the defender has signed a three-year deal just two years after leaving Stamford Bridge to join French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Sky Sports report that the fee is believed to be in the region of £30million and the 29-year-old has made the switch despite Chelsea’s inability to offer European football this season.

The Chelsea fans have gone into meltdown on Twitter and some are delighted with the decision to bring former cult hero Luiz back to Stamford Bridge.

However, others have placed huge question marks over his defensive ability, as he is well known for errors of judgement at the back.

Here are a selection of the fans messages on Twitter:

He left Chelsea for a reported world-record £50million fee for a defender to join PSG in 2014, which still stands as the highest price ever paid for a defender.

Conte was keen to bring in a new centre-back this summer and turned to Luiz after failing with bids for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and AC Milan’s Alessandro Romagnoli.

Despite his unorthodox and rash style of defending he was a part of the famous Chelsea side which lifted the Champions League in 2012, the only club from London to lift the prestigious trophy.

Following the club’s poor showing last season he will hope to return them back to the top of English football.

The London club currently have English duo John Terry and Gary Cahill occupying the centre-back positions with Kurt Zouma as backup.
