West Ham have agreed a £20million deal with Swansea for Andre Ayew – and there was a mixed reaction from their fans on Twitter.

Sky Sports report on their transfer centre blog that a deal has been settled between the two clubs.

It is said that the forward will have a medical this weekend but Swansea will not formally allow Ayew to link up with the Hammers until they sign another striker.

The capture of the Ghana international will be regarded as a landmark deal as it will smash West Ham’s transfer record, which stands as the £15.5million signing of Andy Carroll from Liverpool in 2013.

The Hammers look set to make their biggest signing of the summer and, while some supporters praised the player’s qualities, other’s questioned his transfer fee.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The Swansea hitman scored 12 goals in his debut season in the Premier League and has attracted the attentions of the Hammers during their extensive search for a top class striker.

Ayew was thought to be interested in West Ham last summer before eventually joining Swansea on a free transfer.

The forward signed a four-year deal when he arrived, but could now be on his way out of the club.

West Ham have been very public in their pursuit of a top drawer frontman this summer and have reportedly failed in bids to bring the likes of AC Milan’s Carlos Bacca, Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and Michy Batshuayi to the club.

In other West Ham transfer news, Slaven Bilic believes that he will need a minimum of five new players to his squad.
