Following a goal on his debut for Matt Ritchie, Newcastle fans took to Twitter to have their say on what they hope will be the first of many this season.

Ritchie picked up the ball inside the box in the 15th minute of the club’s friendly clash against Irish club Bohemian on Saturday, and a smart step-over was followed by a bending strike into the top-left corner of the net.

Newcastle went on to win 6-0 against Ireland Premier Division side, with Aleksandar Mitrović, Dwight Gayle, Florian Thauvin, Rolando Aarons and Georginio Wijnaldum with the other goals.

Ritchie joined the recently relegated side in a reported £10million deal from Bournemouth and signed a five-year contract at the start of July.

Ritchie made just shy of 150 appearances in all competitions during his two spells with the Cherries, who finished five points above safety last season.

Unlike his new club Newcastle, who were relegated to the Championship despite a small revival under Rafa Benitez during the back end of the season.

The spectacular Ritchie goal has instantly filled fans with confidence and it appears the striker has instantly found a spot in Geordie hearts.

In other Newcastle news, it is looking increasingly likely that their star pair will make up the Newcastle midfield next season according to Benitez.
