James Milner has been named in Tony Cascarino and Tony Cottee’s Premier League team of the season so far.
The Sky Sports pundits named the team on Monday morning and include Milner at left-back, where he has thrived since being handed the unfamiliar position by Jurgen Klopp this season.
Sky Sports News HQ revealed the team on their official Twitter account, which also includes five Manchester City players and Milner’s teammate Sadio Mane.
The inclusion of the 61-time England international comes as a surprise, given that Milner has been asked to play away from his preferred position of central midfield.
Milner, 30, has stepped in at left-back for the Merseysiders following the poor form of Alberto Moreno.
The former Leeds man was in fine form for Liverpool on the weekend, scoring twice from the penalty spot as Klopp’s side demolished Mike Phelan’s Hull City 5-1 at Anfield.
Despite playing on the left side of defence, Milner is joint second in the Anfield goalscoring charts after Saturday’s brace took his tally to three goals for the season and level with Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino and Mane.
The former Newcastle and Aston Villa man joined Liverpool from Manchester City in the summer of 2015 on a free transfer. He has since made 51 league and cup appearances, scoring 10 times and adding a further 16 goals in assists.
In other Liverpool news, Jamie Redknapp has claimed this Liverpool player reminds him of Steve Nicol.
