Everton have landed their first major summer signing by clinching a deal for Idrissa Gueye – and their fans reacted with delight on Twitter.
The Merseyside club completed the capture of the midfielder on Tuesday after triggering a £7.1million release clause in his Aston Villa contract.
Everton fans have hailed the capture of Gueye on Twitter and several have even compared him to Premier League winner N’Golo Kante.
Much of the praise for clinching the deal has been aimed at new director of football Steve Walsh, who famously recommended Leicester sign Kante from the French second division before his breathtaking debut Premier League season.
Here are some of the messages of the Everton fans on Twitter:
Gueye to #EFC signing has Steve Walsh written all over it. Think he’ll prove to be an astute recruit. Welcome, Idrissa!

Everton finally made an outfield signing, expecting big things from Idrissa Gueye

Idrissa Gueye is a brilliant signing for Everton. Statistically second only to Kante as a defensive midfielder last season.

A centre mid partnership of Mo Besic and Idrissa Gueye next season sounds boss.

Don’t know a thing about Idrissa Gueye so it’s hard to have any feeling towards the signing but you have to trust Steve Walsh.

Idrissa Gueye officially signs for #EFC. Smart move from Koeman and Walsh, hopefully he’ll have an important part to play this season.

Gueye has become the first major signing of new manager Ronald Koeman after he signed goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg on a free transfer from Fulham.
Everton triggered the player’s release clauses last week after identifying him as a solution to their central midfield problems.
Only former Leicester midfielder Kante completed more interceptions than Gueye last season and Koeman targeted him as he builds his squad for the forthcoming Premier League season.
In other Everton transfer news, their star player has told team-mates that he wants to quit after a bid close to £70million was submitted.
