Mark Warburton revealed that he is hoping to sign two new players in the next 48 hours.

Scottish broadcaster STV claim that Joleon Lescott will undergo medical tests with the Scottish giants, while the club have reportedly agreed a £1.5million fee with Preston striker Joe Garner.

The former Brentford boss has hinted that the moves could be edging close in the build-up to the country giants’ clash against Motherwell at the weekend after revealing the club are close to two new signings.

“We’re making progress on some targets that have gone on now for a number of weeks and we are hopefully very near a conclusion on one or two of those,” Warburton said, as quoted by Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre Blog (4.34pm).

“It wouldn’t be right to speak about individuals but we are close on one or two and I hope we can get them to completion in the next 24 to 48 hours, maximum.”

Lescott, 34, suffered a disappointing campaign at the heart of the Aston Villa defence last season, where his side picked up just 17 points.

Meanwhile, Garner, 28, has been the star of Deepdale with Preston in the Championship.

The striker moved to the Lancashire club on a free in 2013 and has made 151 appearances for the club scoring 57 goals and helping his side return to England’s second tier from League 1.

The Ibrox club have already added nine players to their squad this summer, which includes experienced duo Joey Barton and Niko Kranjcar.

The Scottish Premiership side are currently joint top of the table after a four-year absence in the embryonic table, but fierce rivals Celtic have a game in hand.

In other Rangers transfer news, Preston manager Simon Grayson has said the Gers are getting a “fantastic footballer” in Joe Garner.
