Arsene Wenger has confirmed Gabriel Paulista is in contention to play against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.
The Gunners manager confirmed on Monday afternoon that Gabriel could take to the field for the first time this season.
The 25-year-old centre-back has not featured for the Gunners in their six matches of 2016-17 after he injured his ankle during the final game of pre-season.
But Wenger confirmed that the Brazilian could return when the north London take on Championship outfit Forest at the City ground on Tuesday.
“He [Gabriel] has a chance to play against Forest,” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website.
Gabriel made 29 appearances in all competition for Wenger’s side last term, but will now face competition for a first-team spot.
Since the Brazilian’s injury Wenger signed Germany international Shkodran Mustafi for £35million, while youngster Rob Holding was also added to the defensive this summer.
Additionally, the Brazilian will have to battle with regular starter Laurent Koscielny for a first-team place, with Per Mertesacker a long-term injury absentee.
Arsenal take on a Forest side who are the second highest scorers in the Championship with 16 goals.
In other Arsenal team news, the club’s key man will miss the showdown against Chelsea.
