Dele Alli punched Claudio Yacob during Tottenham’s 1-1 draw against West Brom on Monday night – and Twitter went into meltdown.

The Tottenham golden boy has showed quite a few flashes of temper during his brilliant Premier League debut season.

But 24 hours after being named the PFA Young Player of the Year, Alli’s halo slipped after footage emerged of him punching Yacob during the first half of Monday’s Premier League clash.

The 20-year-old, who had one of his poorest matches for months as Spurs were dealt a crushing blow in their title hopes, hit the West Brom midfielder in the stomach.

Alli could face now restrospective action from the Football Association, as the incident did not appear to have been spotted.

The Spurs midfielder could be slapped with a violent conduct charge and being banned for three matches, which would rule him out for the rest of the season.

Here is a selection of some of the best messages on Twitter:

In other Tottenham news, the next Eric Dier could be playing at White Hart Lane next season.
