West Ham goalkeeper, Adrian has highlighted the importance in his side keeping a clean sheet in the 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Hammers went into the south London clash without a win in five matches and were lying in second bottom position in the Premier League.
They have got one of the worst defensive records in the league so far and the clean sheet was hugely important, Adrian told the club’s official website.
“It’s very important to keep a clean sheet because if you score one goal, like we did, you win three points,” said Adrian
“It is a change of our mind. We need to start winning games and getting points because we want to climb the table.
“This system worked for us. Every game is different and we went with this one, and luckily for us it worked.”
Saturday’s victory gave West Ham three vital points as they have only secured seven in their opening eight games of the season.
With fixtures against Sunderland and Stoke lined-up in the next four weeks, the Hammers will be hoping to add to their small tally but have tough games against Everton and Chelsea also to contend with.
Slaven Bilic’s side switched to a three-man defence after a 19th minute goal from Manuel Lanzini put them in front.
The change of formation seemed to work and West Ham were able to cling onto victory but Adrian hopes it will be the first of many.
The victory moved them up four places in the table, ahead of Sunderland, Swansea, Stoke, Middlesbrough and Hull.
