West Ham winger Michail Antonio has been named West Ham’s player of the month for August after an impressive start to the new Premier League campaign.

The 26-year-old has started in impressive form after being relieved of right-back duties and moving back into his more natural wing role.

During the first month of the new season, he bagged the Hammers only goals in matches against Bournemouth and Manchester City.

West Ham announced the news via their official Twitter account on Monday, offering their congratulations to the wing star.

Antonio was also handed a first call-up to the England team by manager Sam Allardyce in a turbulent first month for the attacker.

He also scored two goals in the Hammers most recent 4-2 defeat against Watford.

Antonio is one of a number of players to have come up through the Football League in recent years.

He has spent time at Reading, Cheltenham, Southampton, Colchester, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest during his career.

He left the City Ground and Forest last summer in a £7million deal to West Ham and he has impressed during his stay in east London.

The attack minded player has featured in 39 appearances for the club in all competitions scoring 13 goals.

In other West Ham team news, Twitter reacted with humour after Angelo Ogbonna posted an image of the scoreline of his team’s 4-2 defeat against Watford on Saturday.
