West Ham fans were dismayed as captain Mark Noble failed to impress under the watchful eye of England manager Sam Allardyce.
The 29-year-old was unimpressive during the Hammers 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge after lining up alongside new signing Havard Nordtveit and Cheikhou Kouyate in a central midfield three.
New England boss Allardyce was in the stands as the West London side eventually saw off West Ham, thanks to a late goal from Diego Costa.
Noble played under the former Sunderland manager during Allardyce’s time in East London, which has sparked rumours that the London-born midfielder could be called up for his first national team appearance.
The West Ham midfield were outclassed throughout the London derby, with Nemanja Matic, N’Golo Kante and Oscar all performing well in the middle of the park for Antonio Conte’s side.
However, West Ham fans believe that the former Ipswich Town loanee has harmed his England chances, as he failed to keep possession on numerous occasions.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Mark Noble proving that one good season doesn't mean you should be in the England squad. Looks embarrassing so far! #WHUFC
